Podcast Prep - 18if Episode 2

Podcast number 2 will be uploaded soon! We watched 18if Season 1 Episode 2! 18if is a 2017 anime series that can be viewed on many places but I’ve chosen Funimation’s App. It follows a man named Haruto as he travels the Dream world with his new acquaintances, Kanzaki and Lily. Kanzaki is a professor but chooses to use a anthro cat with a cane. Lily is a angelic vision only visible in rare circumstances but she speaks to Haruto quite often, calling him brother instead of his name.

During this episode we’re introduced to a new witch, a much darker and less enthusiastic witch. If you enjoy a small bit of gore and hate, this episode might be for you. The title of 18if’s second episode is “Time Stopped at Age 12.”

Week 6 of Anime Viewing - 1st Week of Podcast!

For this week, I’ll be watching 18if with a guest for the very first From A to .Hack podcast! It is a 2017 anime, directed by Koji Morimoto, it follows the life or should I say dreams of Haruto Tsukishiro. The anime series is 13 episodes long and around 25 minutes each. Main characters are Haruto, our hero, Lily, our mysterious dream world helper, and Kanzaki, our intelligent avatar cat friend. They are all in this dream world and while that may seem perfectly fine, they have to deal with dangerous witches to survive the dream world and wake back up.

That’s not all! I’ll also be watching Akira, a 1989 animated film directed by Katsuhiro Otomo. It’s a post-apocalyptic film that I’ve had several people recommend but never took the time to watch it. Thankfully I started From A to .Hack so now I have an excuse to sit around watching anime I never thought I’d get around to turning on. The main character is the leader of a biker gang named Shotaro Kaneda after an attack destroys the Tokyo they knew, the city is rebuilt but now the city is suffering from a great deal of violence.

009 Re:Cyborg

009 Re:Cyborg

Spoilers Ahead

Seriously, don’t keep reading if you don’t want to have the movie spoiled!

Just so we’re clear, you are about to read my thoughts that contain a great deal of spoilers concerning “009 Re:Cyborg” which is a 2012 Japanese Animation (Anime) Movie, if this is correct, thanks for being here and read on! TL;DR is near the bottom.

Basically I went in blind with only the little details from my husband concerning the television series to go on. I began the movie, which starts with a speech. And it’s another computerized art style anime…yay. Things are a bit stiff but I can get past it. Unfortunately, you can really see the Flip Book animation going on here, I mean I get they are cyborgs, ya know robots, but that doesn’t mean the humans should have flip book animations too.
I can get behind this music though, like woohoo, I feel like I’m about to watch a suspenseful and most likely horror infused film.

HOLY CRAP, I thought that was a giant spider in the waters reflection! Is it supposed to look like that? Probably.

So “His Voice” is first presented as someone entering people’s minds and causing them to commit suicide bombings. Interesting, I like the concept of this type of villain, makes them a bit harder to capture.

009, aka Joe, seems to being having memory trouble, which brings me to the question, is his cyborg self just living constantly through the same age, is his girlfriend a cyborg too? Am I going to learn more as I watch? We’ll see.

Yes, I did learn more, Joe’s girlfriend is actually 003 but the professor put an imaginary girlfriend in his head to help him cope or to reduce 003s worries. I also learned that this is 27 years in the future, my goodness I feel sorry for Joe and having to repeat high school for so freaking long. Does he go to different schools or the same one, are the teachers in on it? Like how does all that work? Is the schooling he gets just an illusion too?

Also watched the beginning again and realized his gf wasn’t seen at the entrance and she even looks at the window and notices she doesn’t have a reflection… how did I miss that the first time around? But how does she have friends for him to hang out with? Is the entire school an illusion?

003 looks like she has a huge wedgie in all the skirts she wears, why?

Ok, so they were a team, got it, they’re being summoned to save the country it appears and they needed to wake 009 up, is the woman and 009 a thing? I think they were attempting to go for sexy booty but all I saw was wedgie.

Is that a very large skeleton? I had to pause to look at the surroundings to find out if it just looked large or if it really was large? Ok now I’m even more confused on what “His Voice” is if it apparently does something weird like with the large skeleton. After watching a bit longer, that was a angel skeleton, not some giant skeleton and it basically was associated with the voice.

Ok going into this, I thought the nine cyborg’s were created for bad but would choose not to follow that path… yeah the Funimation description got me on that one. Who is a cyborg and who isn’t a cyborg? I’m getting confused on this one, how can you tell? Is everyone a cyborg? The way they mention cyborg’s it doesn’t seem like they’re all cyborg’s but heck if everybody I’ve met so far didn’t end up being a cyborg.

Well, well, well, I wasn’t expecting hentai! There was no hentai, just a little ‘cuddling’. But umm, 009 looked in the mirror like he didn’t recognize himself, she said she lived while he waited, did he change faces or something while she grew up he continued being a teen? Got a little further in the film, completely understand this meaning because she was still woke and was supposed to be watching over her teenage lover while he was dormant and waited to be woken up if there was ever a need for him again, all with his illusion girlfriend. The Professor would reset his mind to believe he was the age he was transformed and so he wouldn’t have to suffer the memories of the 00 team.

Freaking 001 is a baby, I just need to know why they thought transforming a baby for evil was a great idea. Is it because he would be the easiest to manipulate? Why is he still using a pacifier? I’m assuming he’s been transformed for just as long as Joe, he speaks as an adult, though telepathically, but still.

What is with the little angel girl? Is she “His Voice” presented in a more alluring way? Oh no, he came all this way to be lured by this apparition and die! That presentation of the angel skeleton was pretty cool to see. I’d like one of those to place outside during Halloween.

So is the Re in the title means he’s woken up and is reminded that he is a cyborg or is it Re because they all have to save the world again?

“His Voice” is making people kill themselves to ‘start over and help humanity’ with suicide bombings, great.

I’m so pleased we have the rockin’ music again.

Good job guys, fighting with each other killed thousands today, are ya proud of yourselves?

Ok, so how are these angel skeletons getting into places? I get how it can get into people’s minds but how are these large things getting into buildings, just appearing out of nowhere? Or did someone prop them up? If you said Devine Intervention then you may be correct!

The bombings started January 16th, 2013, after a dig team found a large angel skeleton. The head of the dig team assumed that maybe his team heard a message from God himself when they spoke of hearing voices in their heads. We’re lead to believe it’s a curse from digging up the angel, should’ve used some tech like what they have in Jurassic Park to see what was under the ground then thought twice about digging that stuff up. But back to what we later learn, it was the voice of God, manipulating people through a hive mind system to get them to do bad so the world will do good by coming together to fix their issues.

Why do some cyborgs have completely white eyes?

Dude’s hand is a gun! I don’t know why I find that so awesome compared to all the other freaking skills in this movie by these cyborgs but HIS FREAKIN’ HAND IS A MACHINE GUN! HIS KNEE LAUNCHES AMMO! I’ve never been so turned on in my life! Ok, maybe that’s not true, but OMG!

Oh no, Jet wasn’t in control of himself, so “His Voice” doesn’t just convince someone, it takes over their mind and body. I love that we saw what he saw first then he came across what really happened when he awoke from his injuries and probably from the angel’s possession.

Alright! We’re in the outfits we see all over the film cover. And finally, 003 is in something that looks AH-mazing on her!

Ok, I’m crying a little, I really hope he dies though, because these tears would be so pointless if he lives.

JET’S STILL ALIVE! Wait, doesn’t that mean, Joe will freaking LIVE?! NO!

Ummm, Joe? 009? Are you going to give us a speech or are you going to save the people?

Soooo, 001 IS still just like a baby, he’s adorbs when sleeping.

And yep, he’s alive, Joe lived somehow…

I’m so confused, they all end up in some Venice and alive? And we’re told it’s because Joe spoke the loudest to the voice, and the angel just freaking pops up to those that “did what was right.” Huh?

So the angel also believed to be the voice, showed up to people who did the wrong thing? But those same people that it seemed to show up around appeared to be BAD people, like in the board room where Jhet discovered they were hearing the voice… And This good angel voice that convinced others to suicide bomb, to attack a building full of people without realizing what they were doing because the voice took control, this voice was good? And somehow because 009 yelled the loudest to God, he put the world the way it should be and brought back the dead??? What!?

ALSO, the description of the film on the Funimation App reads, “Long ago, nine humans were captured and transformed into cyborgs for the purposes of evil. Instead, they became champions of justice.” This description does not describe this film, it describes the series, this film is after these events, it’s after they became champions of justice, this film is about them reemerging to fight once again and a voice that is causing destruction around the flippin’ flappin’ world. They were already Champions of Justice, how does this describe this film?

Ok, yes, while I am frustrated with that portion, you can find more information under the video on the funimation app and on Google that describes the film more accurately, I did not read this before going in.

TL;DR
Nine cyborgs once transformed from humans to became objects of evil, later became heroes in a team known as 00. After a victory, they chose to either go off on their own or stay together, the main cyborg, 009 aka Joe, was dormant and didn’t know who he really was but after bombings and a voice in people’s head appeared, the rest of the team woke him up and he eventually saves the day after so many people are killed by yelling the loudest to God.

A Prezi Presentation for Fun!

Woah! I made a Prezi Presentation, highlighting why you shouldn’t be discouraged by one form between Anime & Manga when quite often the anime & manga could have many differences making one version better than the other of the same title. https://Prezi.com/view/wQlu9O7zpFEwuwKiUEiV/
